Life, the Universe, and Everything.
(Mostly Harmless.)
Had a very nice weekend! Other than working on Saturday (oy, I do not want to work four Saturdays in a row ever again!) I had a great time. Had a baby shower for one of my friends from high school on Saturday night. There were ten of us girls who were friends, and we're all still in touch to some degree...even before Facebook, we kept in contact. It's really fun, because no matter how long it is between reunions, we always pick up where we left off. Such amazing girls.
Six of us were there with miscellaneous significant others - and KIDS. Wow, when did that happen? One of my friends has a one-year old, the other has a three-year old and a one and a half year old. I found myself sitting on a couch in a house participating in a potluck where people bring their kids - and the kid-bringers are MY friends, not my parents' friends. SUCH a surreal moment...
But I loved the kids. They were really sweet - and total hams. I love it when kids aren't shy or standoffish. So after a rockin' party last night, a handful of us met at Shedd Aquarium with the kids this morning to see the fishies. I had so much fun! Loved, loved, loved hanging out with old friends. They're just the best.
Jeanie, I'm glad you liked "Hunger Games" - I agree, it's quite obviously a teen novel - and I didn't get used to Peeta's name until I was almost done with the book - but I still loved it. And even though I don't have much patience for love triangles, this one isn't all that bad. Not NEARLY as melodramatic and annoying as Edward, Bella, and Jacob. (Yes, I've read the "Twilight" books, and I liked them. I'll admit it. Not what I'd call literature, but definitely brain candy.) I read Stephen King's review - didn't quite agree with everything he said, but I thought he wrote a good review. The series definitely isn't what I expected it would be so I'll definitely be interested in what you think when you finally read the next two!
So now it's pizza, ice cream, and the Oscars until I get bored with them...which will probably be after the first half hour. I like seeing the dresses but there's only so much "hey, aren't we all awesome!" that I can take.
I could have picked up both the second and third books in hardcover this weekend for $10 each, but it's the principle of the thing!
